Judge Ned Mangum has been named the interim Wake County District Attorney. He was a Wake County District Court judge until this appointment by Governor Pat McCory. He wfill out the remainder of the term of Colon Willoughby who announced his retirement after three decades in office. Mangum was a fair and impartial district court judge and should provide good continuity until the voters elect a new District Attorney in November. His appointment was welcomed at the courthouse and seen as a sign that Governor McCrory was not going to politicize the office and pick sides in the current race for DA.
