Wake County allows some speeding tickets to be reduced to improper equipment. Improper equipment is the best reduction for a speeding ticket because it is considered a non-moving violation. No license or insurance points are assessed against the driver for a non-moving violation.
In order to qualify for a Wake County improper equipment reduction, you must meet the following criteria:
§ Provide a certified North Carolina driving record showing:
o No more than 1 other moving violation in the last 3 years
o No more than 3 moving violations within 10 years
o No improper equipment reductions within 3 years
§ Charged with speeding 20 mph or less over the posted limit and not in excess of 85 mph
§ Resolve the case by the 3rd setting in the disposition courtroom (Courtroom 101)
§ Pay fines and court costs of more than $263.
§ If under the age of 21, complete a 4 hour driving course at an approved driving school
